SINGAPORE — Pastry top-toques Christian Escriba and Patricia Schmidt of renowned pastry boutique Pasteleria Escriba may be the first to combine theatrical performances with a confectionery show.

Featuring renowned European theatre company Comediants, the three-day event (Aug 22 to 24) at the Marina Bay Sands Convention and Exhibition Centre aims to take visitors on a whimsical and somewhat surreal journey through Escriba’s celebrated world of sweet treats. With bitter chocolate lips, golden cream eggs, candy jewellery and chocolate shoes, not to mention a jungle of life-sized animals all made out of Callebaut chocolate, fondant, meringue and other delicious confectionery.

It’s a little like a mix of circus arts and street entertainment, but with a lot more cake and chocolate. Around 15 tonnes of Callebaut chocolate was used, although much of it has gone into making the team’s 8.5m-tall Guinness World Record breaking chocolate falls — one of more than 25 innovative confectionery masterpieces, spread across eight themed pavilions. Happiness, Escriba asserted, is having your cake any way you can imagine.
