S’pore Food Expo celebrates nostalgia

SINGAPORE — Visitors to Singapore Food Expo (SFE) 2015, which kicked off yesterday, can get a touch of nostalgia. While the expo is best known for showcasing various food brands available in Singapore, organisers said this year’s edition would be slightly different because “we shall be celebrating SG50 this year and the theme of our event is historical ’50s”.

For instance, there will be daily cooking demonstrations highlighting dishes that were popular in the 1950s. There will also be a special “historical corridor” featuring local food companies with more than 50 years of history. It runs concurrently with the SG50 Deliciously Singaporean travelling exhibition, organised by the National Heritage Board, that shows how the food industry here has evolved, as well as a special 1950s coffeeshop exhibit.

The People’s Association will also be presenting nightly entertainment programmes featuring all things Singaporean.

SFE 2015 is at the Singapore Expo Hall 4 and runs until June 2. Admission is free.
