Fun activities with kids this September holidays

1. Gimme mall

1. Gimme mall

Everybody loves a new mall, and next week, there is the revamped and spanking new Compass One to go to.

The Sengkang mall marks its opening with a series of performances and giveaways such as magic shows for the first three weekends of September (Sept 3 to 4, 10 to 11, 17 to 18) from 6.30pm to 7pm. There are also deals to be had every day such as #TGIF, 20 per cent discount on food and beverages on Sept 9 and 16. Visit www.compassone.sg for more information and a list of participating retailers.

Other malls are also holding special events during this time. There is the Japan Autumn Fair at Takashimaya Food Hall and a Kawaii Japanese Characters Fair at the Concept Shop in Takashimaya’s Basement 1. Both events run till Sept 15. Visit Takashimaya’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/takashimaya.sg) for updates.

Over at Plaza Singapura, boutique tea house Arteastiq is giving away S$20 vouchers and a one-for-one art jamming when you buy two regular art jamming sessions. Fellow tenant and florist Pollen Scent will be conducting mini garden terrarium workshops from Monday to Friday after 6pm. Meanwhile, there are also workshops being held at Paper Market located in both Plaza Singapura and Raffles City, where you can dabble in scrapbooking or modern calligraphy. 2. Theatre fun for the family

Jurong Regional Library will be staging a Shakespeare double bill today from 11am to noon. This family-friendly production from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) will see a play-within-a-play, with excerpts from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and an original piece Family, tackling themes of social expectations.

If you are looking for a play to keep even the little ones amused, Three Little Pigs is being staged at the KC Arts Centre in Robertson Quay till Sept 17. Tickets are priced at S$95 for a family of four for weekdays and at S$129 for weekends. Get your tickets from Sistic.

3. Work it off

We all know kids have boundless energy.

Let them have a splashing good time at Safra Punggol’s Splash@Kidz Amaze, which is running a two-day, one-night camp from Sept 9 to 10 where kids get to use recycled bottles to make rafts, have a glow sticks camp fire and a movie screening.

Three meals a day will be provided as part of the camp. It is open to children aged six to 11 and is priced from S$100 for Kidz Amaze members and S$150 for guests. Payment must be made at Safra Punggol. For more information, call 6585 8710 or email splash [at] safra.sg.

For those who prefer skiing to swimming, there’s a ski clinic being held for kids during the September holidays. It is a 90-minute introductory programme specially for children who have never skied before or who need a refresher course. Dates vary according to age.
