Not all fast or furious

SINGAPORE — This year’s SingTel Singapore Grand Prix may have whizzed by but many are still buzzing with vivid memories of life in the fast lane and a fair bit of celebrity carousing. That said, it is pretty much the lifestyle that star athletes like McLaren Formula 1 driver Jenson Button have to keep in check. “It is strange because an actor and a singer even need to be in the public eye the whole time. Being photographed for them is a good thing … whereas for us (professional race car drivers) it doesn’t really ...” Button said, adding that they much rather “do the talking on the track”.

But that was not all the 33-year-old shared during an exclusive one-on-one with TODAY. Learning that the reporter in question is also rather adept when it comes to navigating the world of cinema, he was quick to turn the table with questions about the movie RUSH, director Ron Howard’s re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between F1 rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Bringing Button quickly back under the spotlight, he did eventually share candidly how he handles fame and the paparazzi, not to mention a love for wine, his very own special Johnnie Walker blend, and life outside a S$9 million automobile. Don Mendoza
