6 upcoming Ikea collections you need to have in your home

1. KATIE EARY’S GILTLIG COLLECTION

1. KATIE EARY’S GILTLIG COLLECTION

Menswear fashion designer Katie Eary hopes to “add some vibrancy into people’s homes”. Naturally her collection pops — literally, with eyeball prints on lampshades and fabric; while surreal designs of brains and teeth make their way onto trays and cushions. If those prove too much for you, her dinnerware with the milder looking fighting fish and kitchens would suffice to inject some electrifying drama on your tables. To be launched: April 2016

2. INGERGARD RAMAN’S VIKTIGT COLLECTION

The award-winning Swedish glass and ceramics designer brings her unfussy, sophisticated touch to rattan chairs and bamboo furnishings made in Vietnam. The result is clean Scandinavian design fused with the warmth of familiar Asian materials that wouldn’t look out of place anywhere. To be launched : May 2016

3. SITTNING TABLEWARE COLLECTION

Sittning is a dream come true for the aspiring Kinfolk type. It’s a collection that promises to make “eating more beautiful … elevating even the most everyday of meals to a culinary event.” Yes, that means utterly Instagrammable moments with the serving ware, cutlery, tablecloths and candlesticks. To be launched: September 2015

4. WIFI CHARGING COLLECTION

No more unsightly cables! Ikea has produced bedside tables and lamps that amp up the juice of your smartphone while you sleep so it can be the first thing you grab the minute you open your eyes. We prefer the sleek wireless charging pads in white or blonde wood though as they can be conveniently placed anywhere. Already available in some markets worldwide.

5. ILSE CRAWFORD’S SINNERLIG COLLECTION

Cork for your dining table? Why not. This is Ikea and London-based designer Ilse Crawford pushing sustainability to the fullest (cork is renewable, lasting, waterproof and, perhaps best of all, easy to clean). Besides dining tables and benches, the stools are particularly useful and lightweight additions to have around. To be launched: September 2015

6. IKEA SOFT TOYS

Ikea’s Soft Toy for Education campaign is already in its 13th year but we think this year’s collection is particularly poignant as Ikea is producing a series of 10 soft toys dreamt up by children. So yes, you get such the wackiest expressions, colours and quirks that we bet adults would have never thought of. To be launched: October 2015
