5 questions with Kendall Jenner

SINGAPORE — If you still need confirmation about how big a star Kendall Jenner is, take a gander at the number of followers on the 19-year-old American model’s Instagram account (@kendalljenner). Answer: 24.8 million followers — and counting. Jenner, who hopped onto the modelling bandwagon when she was 14 years old, is, of course, noted for appearing on the reality television show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians (her dad is Bruce Jenner). But she is also a familiar face on the fashion runways of London, New York, Paris and Milan, modelling for brands such as Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Fendi and Chanel.

SINGAPORE — If you still need confirmation about how big a star Kendall Jenner is, take a gander at the number of followers on the 19-year-old American model’s Instagram account (@kendalljenner). But she is also a familiar face on the fashion runways of London, New York, Paris and Milan, modelling for brands such as Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Fendi and Chanel.

Just over a month ago, Jenner landed a coveted spot as the new face of Calvin Klein Jeans’ #mycalvins Denim Series. Designed by Calvin Klein Jeans’ global creative director Kevin Carrigan, the series was influenced by the success of its social media campaign that encouraged fans of the brand to post selfies of themselves donning Calvin Klein using the hashtag #mycalvins. (The series comprises jeans, logo T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts and sweatpants.)

Jenner, for one, was over the moon to be part of a brand that she has admired since she was a mere tween. “I got to meet the Calvin Klein family and all of the people that are involved in the making of the campaign. It’s a brand that I’ve always loved and one that I truly support. To work for them is an honour and I’m super excited. Oh, and the clothes are super comfortable!” said the young starlet.

Q: What do you love the most about Calvin Klein Jeans?

A: I knew it to be a brand that was very cool. You see their ads all over magazines and billboards and the images are always so cool and beautiful. I really love how comfortable their jeans are; they fit so amazingly.

Q: What is the most exciting part about being one of its models?

A: Being a Calvin Klein model is something that I’ve always dreamed of and it’s incredible to follow major models like Kate Moss, Christy Turlington and Lara Stone.

Q: When it comes to style, is there anyone or anything in particular that inspires you?

A: I’m still 19 so my style is still developing. I find myself wearing jeans, T-shirts and leather jackets often. I find inspiration just travelling around the world — being in New York, London, Paris — and seeing all of these different places and people with such cool style and edge.

Q: What’s your routine for staying in such great shape?

A: I work out with a trainer when I’m in Los Angeles and I love boxing. I go to the gym whenever I can find the time, but boxing is something that just keeps you moving and makes you forget that you’re actually working out because you’re so into the boxing part of it. That keeps you focused on what you’re doing next.

Q: As the “world’s most followed model” with a reach of more than24 million fans, what are your thoughts on social media?

A: I’ve kind of grown up with it. It’s a way I can express myself and it’s the way I connect with my friends or fans. It’s just kind of natural for my generation, which is crazy to say because I cannot imagine what the generations ahead of me and my kids are going to look like. It’s crazy to think about! I think social media represents how this generation expresses themselves. I think it’s awesome. ZHANG WEIFANG
