Cool couplings

Fashion collaborations are all the rage again, what with H&M announcing its latest partnership with too-cool-for-school designer Alexander Wang at the Coachella Music Festival in Palm Springs last weekend (the launch date in Singapore is slated for Nov 6). Actress Zooey Deschanel also designed a collection with Tommy Hilfiger, which will be available next week; musician John Mayer will be releasing a limited-edition offering with Japanese apparel brand NEIGHBORHOOD next month; while London-based designer Mary Katrantzou will be crafting a capsule offering of apparel and footwear with adidas, to be released later in November.

You can also look forward to bagging fresh drops with Kate Moss and Topshop’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection come April 30.

Yes, Moss’ last collection with Topshop in November 2010 took the world by storm, so they’ve asked her back, and together, they’ve come up with a sweet mix of pieces that encapsulate the Brit model’s boho-chic style.

Key categories in this range include Balearic Dressing (think embroidered smock tops, silk blouses and a white kaftan); Pajama Dressing (Orient-inspired florals, high-waist pants and a chic pajama coat); Cocktail Hour (vintage-inspired pieces); and Tailoring Noir (metallic lame dress, printed shirts and tailored trouser suits).

Moss said music was the main inspiration behind the designs. “My collections are always music-focused,” she said. “Going to festivals is what I think of as summer. But there is also a lot of hippy deluxe ‘lounging around the pool’ kind of things and plenty to wear for cocktail hour.”

Her favourite pieces from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection include a gold and black suit; an embroidered smock dress (“because it is a copy of a vintage find that I wear every summer”); a leather fringe jacket (“based on the one I have worn to three Rolling Stones concerts — it’s my gig jacket”); and a white lace maxi dress (“because of the work that has gone into making it”).

But if you have to pick just one item from the collection, then Moss recommended getting a jacket or a frock. “A jacket is always a good one — our jackets have always been my favourite things. The leather jackets are amazing and (so are) the blazers,” she said. “But ... it’s essential to have dresses for special occasions — (such as) cocktail dresses. This collection has some great pieces for the evening.”

Unsurprisingly, Moss said she would “wear everything” from the collection. “It is really true to my style. There are pieces I want to wear in any situation, like the pyjama slip dress, the Tailoring Noir (range) and things that I couldn’t find or wanted more of.

“I have included them (and) I’ll be wearing it all!”

Kate Moss Topshop Spring/Summer 2014 collection is available from April 30 at Topshop stores at Knightsbridge (#01-05/06), ION Orchard (#B2-01), VivoCity (#01-72), Raffles City Shopping Centre (#02-39) and Bugis BHG (#01-112).
