Fit for a star

SINGAPORE - When it comes to awards shows, sometimes what you wear on red carpet is as important as whether you go home with a gong or not. However, some of the stars at last Sunday’s Star Awards Show 1 made some of us wonder if they had received that memo (right, Shane Pow?). To be fair, there were a handful of success stories: Jeanette Aw’s nautical striped alice + olivia gown and Pierre Png’s gray three-piece number come to mind. Fortunately, there is still Show 2 — aka The Big One — this Sunday that can help those who have miscued their wardrobe choices put things right. (And let’s not forget they’ll be augmented by a celebrity guest list that includes Hong Kong heavyweights Ekin Cheng, Karen Mok, Jerry Lamb and the Grasshoppers.) Here are our style suggestions for our favourite celebs for the red carpet. It’s the last Star Awards show on Caldecott Hill, so why not go out with a bang?

Here are our style suggestions for our favourite celebs for the red carpet. It’s the last Star Awards show on Caldecott Hill, so why not go out with a bang?

FOR REBECCA LIM. We love a gown that sits snugly on your waist and yet spreads out in all its full, gorgeous glory, such as this Elie Saab Couture off-shoulder number.

FOR SHAUN CHEN. This is your time to shine, Shaun, and we think you should stand out in a suit such as this mustard-yellow outfit by Berluti. You definitely look good in colours, so you should experiment with them. .

FOR FELICIA CHIN. Sorry, your frumpy looking Dolce frock did you no justice at last Sunday’s show. Instead, wear something fun, flirty and colourful, such as this Mary Katrantzou number from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. And stop crimping your hair!

FOR THOMAS ONG. Ah, we love a nice shade of chocolate brown on a guy and this Canali suit will, well, suit you nicely while you are on Caldecott Hill. Of course, we’ll swap the white sneakers for something classier, such as a pair of handsome-looking brogues from Church’s.

FOR JOANNE PEH. We think this show-stopping tangerine Ralph Lauren gown will nicely accentuate — and accommodate — the Plus One in you. Also, you can wear sneakers underneath!

FOR RUI EN. You know what? We would really, really like to see you in something sheer and decadent at Sunday’s Show 2, such as this black Elie Saab Couture gown that would look drop dead gorgeous on you. Just finish it off with a pair of yellow-gold Cartier earrings and you’re good to go.

FOR LI NANXING. We’re actually excited to see you finally attend a Star Awards show after ... well, a long time since your debut in The Unbeatables. We hope you keep your suit simple, minimal yet sharp, like this Carven navy-blue get-up from its Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Trust us, go for the high neck top instead of a shirt.

FOR ZOE TAY. We do love that classy look at last Sunday’s show, although we would probably take in a bit at the sides to show off that svelte figure of yours in that Bottega Veneta get-up. We would absolutely love to see you in a dusty lilac number, such as this Balenciaga dress that is super stunning, minimalist, clean and outstanding.

Catch Star Awards Show 2 this Sunday at 7pm (Walk Of Fame at 5pm) live on MediaCorp TV Channel 8.
