Katy Perry is launching her own shoe line

SINGAPORE — From Rihanna with her role as Puma’s creative director, to Kanye West and Yeezy, more music celebrities seem to be dabbling in fashion.

And now, joining the club is Katy Perry with her very own eponymous shoe label. Perry has teamed up with Global Brands Group — the company responsible for a number of celeb brands including JLo by Jennifer Lopez, David Beckham and Rachel Zoe footwear — to launch the singer’s first collection of footwear.

Speaking to fashion news site WWD, Perry said, “It’s been a creative goal of mine to be a real contributor in the affordable fashion space. Launching a footwear collection felt like a natural first step for me. After years of investigating and researching partnerships to find the right fit for the debut of my line, I found that Global Brands most resonated with my artistic ideas. They understand my vision, my eye for detail, and have the international reach and resources to bring my canvas of ideas to life.”

We can’t say we’re surprised. The singer collaborated with H&M on a very successful collection for Christmas 2015, and is the most-followed person on Twitter, amassing a whopping 90 million followers (and potential customers) so far.

Katy Perry Footwear will have a variety of sneakers, sandals, heels and flats that are inspired by Perry’s distinctive, wild style. This is reflected in the materials picked for her designs too, which include lucite, vinyl, metallics and floral print.

However, Katycats will have to wait to shop the collection — it will only officially land in department, speciality and online stores come spring 2017.

In the meantime, Perry and Global Brands Group have released a few sketches of three pairs of heels, and Perry herself was spotted in Las Vegas earlier this week in a pair of kitschy bright-yellow stilettos from her collection that featured heels modelled after cigars. Fun, tongue-in-cheek designs along with (hopefully) reasonable price tags? We’re sold. GWENDOLYN LEE
