Duo who met in queue last year, queued 2 days for the Kenzo x H&M launch
The duo, who met last year in the queue for the Balmain x H&M collaboration, queued for two days to be first in line for the Kenzo X H&M launch on Thursday (Nov 3). And they intend to return to queue again next year.
SINGAPORE — Every year, H&M’s designer collaboration draws queues for people dying to be among the first to get their hands on the designer outfits. It is no different this year for H&M’s highly anticipated collaboration with fashion brand Kenzo, which opened its doors today at 8am to about 100 people already waiting in line.
At the Orchard Building outlet, the queue first started on Tuesday (Nov 1) morning and housewife Sherry Kuhara, 43 was first in the queue at 8am. Her friend, Maria Jessica, 22, a student, later joined her on Wednesday after classes. The two met while they were both queueing in line for last year’s Balmain x H&M collaboration. “I didn’t know it was overwhelming and came at 3am (last year),” explained Kuhara in an interview with Today. Both Sherry and Kuhara did not manage to get all the pieces they wanted from Balmain x H&M so they were determined to turn the tables for this year’s one. “We tell ourselves, next year we must be the first,” Kuhara said. And so, they were.
The pair took turns queuing over the two days. Kuhara spent S$2,500 on 18 pieces, including winter jackets, and Jessica forked out S$1,300 for 12 outfits such as dresses, sweaters, bottoms and accessories. Both said these items were for themselves and they would not be reselling. They added that they loved the collection for its “vibrant colours” and are especially in love with the silk dresses.
The "hardships" involved in queuing, such as the 15-minute toilet breaks and 30-minute meal breaks hardly fazed them. Jessica revealed that it was also difficult to sleep with the heavy rain over the last two days - they only had one to two hours of power naps. “We do a lot of chit chatting together,” quipped Kuhara. “We made a lot of new friends and we are planning to queue again next year with new friends together!”
