Moschino designs Barbie outfit

SINGAPORE — Last year, Moschino unveiled its Barbie-themed spring/summer 2015 collection, which featured pieces that were inspired by the iconic doll. Not only were there T-shirts, sweaters, bags and headbands, there was also a mirrored iPhone cover that allows you “to check you are photo-ready before taking a selfie”, according to a statement from the brand.

After drawing inspiration from Barbie for their collection this year, Moschino now has designed outfits for the world's most famous doll.

This year, Moschino is drawing inspiration from Barbie once again, this time with the Moschino Barbie doll and an exclusive eight-piece ready-to-wear Moschino collection. But don’t rush to the stores at Paragon and Marina Bay Sands just yet.

Moschino said the collection and doll will only be launched on Nov 9, and only online at MOSCHINO.COM and NET-A-PORTER.COM.

Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott said he couldn’t wait to bring all of the brand’s signature features to Barbie, dressing her in a slogan T-shirt, logo trimmed mesh knitwear and a quilted leather bomber jacket with a matching pencil skirt. Accessories include a branded leather cap, mini quilted crossbody bag and the unmistakable gold chain belt with Moschino lettering, among others.

The adult ready-to-wear capsule consists of life-sized versions of some of the same pieces, with the addition of two new Moschino Barbie doll printed T-shirts.

“I wanted to bring all of the Moschino elements to Barbie, as I had done the reverse by bringing all of the Barbie elements to Moschino for the (previous) collection,” said Scott. “The thing I love most about Barbie is that she is the ultimate muse, she’s worn every style and design imaginable, and at the same time she’s had every possible profession you can dream of.”

Kim Culmone, vice-president, Global Barbie Design, said that Scott was the ideal designer to create “a Barbie doll that embodies both humour and high fashion”. “We couldn’t love this collaboration more. Barbie on the Moschino runway in Milan or Moschino in Barbie’s closet in Malibu — either way, it’s pure fashion fun and a perfect partnership.”

The collector edition Moschino Barbie doll is priced at 140 euros (S$216).
