LONDON — Trust fashion designer Tom Ford to find a dapper way to wear the Apple Watch. Not content with the gadget’s array of strap options, the designer has created his very own Apple Pocket Watch.

The timepiece, which was spotted at his London Collections: Men presentation last week, has a small silver loop on the top side of the face to which a silver chain is clipped. But as stylish as the riff on the watch may seem, it actually renders the device’s heart rate sensor useless as it needs skin-to-watch contact to work. The Apple Pay service is also disabled and by keeping the watch in a pocket it will automatically lock it.

Nevertheless, Ford’s innovation will doubtless sit well with his many celebrity fans, who include the likes of Jay-Z (who wrote a song dedicated to him) and wife Beyonce. Creators Apple will also be pleased: The company was hoping to make inroads into the fashion market with the watch — even inviting members of the fashion press to view it first last year — and Ford’s use of it suggests they have succeeded.

Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld is also a fan of the watch — he showcased his exclusive version with an 18-carat gold link bracelet earlier this year, the same style worn by Beyonce. Other celebrities who have taken to the timepiece include model Christy Turlington, American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and singer Katy Perry.

Ford is also the man behind the suits of James Bond — he created the suits for Daniel Craig in Skyfall and will do the same for the upcoming Spectre. The question is: Will Bond sport Ford’s version of the Apple Watch? THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
