Airlines that have banned Samsung’s Galaxy Note7

SINGAPORE — And the ban goes on: On Sunday (Oct 16), Scoot and Tigerair also banned Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 mobile device from all flights. “The device cannot be carried on guests’ persons or in their hand-carry baggage, nor can it be checked in or shipped as air cargo. Anyone found in possession of the device will be denied boarding,” the airlines said on their respective websites.

Of course, they’re not the only ones. AirAsia also banned the mobile device. On Saturday, Singapore Airlines had said that it would ban the mobile device from all flights too, as did Australia carrier Qantas and its affiliates; and Hong Kong-based airlines and US-based airlines.

The airline bans followed an announcement by the United States’ Department of Transportation that banned the Note7 from “air transportation in the United States and Canada”. Hong Kong International Airport also banned passengers from carrying the Note7 on any flight to and from Hong Kong.

Previously, passengers were banned from using or charging the mobile device on their planes, but they could still bring them on board. Now, they can’t even put the phones in their check-in luggage, and in some cases, aren’t even allowed to ship them as cargo.

Here are the airlines (so far) that have banned the mobile device entirely from its flights:

  • Singapore Airlines
  • Tigerair
  • Scoot
  • SilkAir
  • Qantas Airways
  • Jetstar Airways
  • Cathay Pacific Airways
  • Virgin Australia
  • Tigerair Australia
  • Dragonair

  • AirAsia Malaysia
  • AirAsia Thailand
  • AirAsia Indonesia
  • AirAsia Philippines
  • AirAsia India
  • Malaysia AirAsia X
  • Thai AirAsia X
  • Indonesia AirAsia X.
  • All US-based airlines
  • All Japanese airlines (All Nippon Airways, JAL)
  • Firefly
  • Etihad
  • Emirates
