Halloween ideas for the ultimate brave heart to the lazy bones

SINGAPORE — In need of a good scare or just plain fun this Halloween? But just where do you start? Well, if you want to go somewhere further afield than, say, Sentosa’s popular Halloween Horror Nights, here are some ideas to inspire a ghoul old time overseas.

SINGAPORE — In need of a good scare or just plain fun this Halloween? But just where do you start? Well, if you want to go somewhere further afield than, say, Sentosa’s popular Halloween Horror Nights, here are some ideas to inspire a ghoul old time overseas.

FOR THE ULTIMATE BRAVE HEART: Sleep with the dead in Paris

Forget camping at a cemetery, how about sharing your night with six million souls underground? The catacombs of Paris is the world’s largest grave and for the first time in history, two lucky (or unlucky?) travellers will get the chance to stay over on Halloween night thanks to Airbnb. Simply visit the website (https://www.airbnb.com.sg/night-at/paris-catacombs) by Oct 20 and declare why you have the stomach for this. You don’t only get bragging rights for being the first living person to wake up in the catacombs — part of the prize includes a meal, private concert and a storyteller sharing tales from the catacombs that Airbnb says are “guaranteed to produce nightmares”.

FOR THE TRUE-BLUE ZOMBIE LOVER: Fight the undead at Ocean Park Hong Kong

Die-hard (pun fully intended) fans of FOX’s zombie hit The Walking Dead can fly to Hong Kong’s Ocean Park to experience the show in the flesh. The attraction will allow visitors to enter familiar scenes from the series — such as escaping the ruins of Woodbury or running amok at Terminus — as they try to survive an “attack”. This special Halloween attraction has been rated “high” on the scary barometer by the theme park. In any case, it definitely won’t get cancelled because of a haze issue.

FOR THOSE WITH TOTS: Hang out at Resorts World Genting SnowWorld

Parents with toddlers would appreciate a Halloween attraction that doesn’t induce night terrors. So Resorts World Genting SnowWorld’s first Halloween event The SnowMonster Bash is pretty much perfect for families. Besides the opportunity to gallivant in the snow, children get to see cute little snow monsters in their not-so-haunted homes and play harvest time with the pumpkins.

FOR THE LAZY BONES: Creep yourself out with American Horror Story: Hotel

Okay, here is one for those too slothful to even make it out of the house, let alone go anywhere for Halloween. Bring Halloween into your living room with the fifth instalment of the gory American Horror Story (AHS) series, which premieres tonight on FX. After a haunted house, a hospital, an asylum and a carnival, AHS now takes place in a hotel. Executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk promised that Hotel will be much darker than previous incarnations and was inspired by actual Los Angeles hotels with a haunted reputation, such as The Cecil. Early reviews seem favourable — if you’re into shock, violence and Kubrick-inspired direction. But, perhaps the scariest thing about Hotel could be Lady Gaga making her screen debut as a mysterious bloodthirsty countess.
