The Pindaya Caves is a Myanmar must for Soap and Glory’s Vincenzo Minore

SINGAPORE — For a man with two teenage sons, Vincenzo Minore sure knows a lot about beauty products.

SINGAPORE — For a man with two teenage sons, Vincenzo Minore sure knows a lot about beauty products.

Then again, the Swiss-born CEO has travelled the world, working for big names such L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Aveda and, now, London-based cult beauty brand Soap And Glory. And this is one boss who isn’t afraid to admit he applies moisturiser (twice!) on the plane if it’s a long trip.

“I moisturise before the plane takes off and in the middle of a long flight,” he shared. “Men should take care of their skin while travelling, too.”

Spoken like a real beauty insider.

Q: So besides moisturising on the plane, what other beauty rituals do you have while you travel?

A: I apply sunscreen! I’m 40 years old, so I’d better do it. (Laughs). But I don’t like thick sunscreens or those that leave a white residue. That’s why Soap And Glory’s Sunshield
Superfluid works for me.

Q: You speak five languages fluently: English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. What’s the secret to picking up a foreign language easily?

A: When it’s a necessity. It’s easiest to learn to speak a language when you’re staying in a particular country where everyone speaks it. It’s like an obligation. When I was staying in Hong Kong for three years, I tried learning Mandarin for six months. I can’t speak it but I think when you appreciate the culture, it makes learning the language more worth it despite the difficulties.

Q: Most business travellers dislike waiting around in the airport. How do you feel about it?

A: Well, the airport lounges aren’t so bad. And I actually don’t mind it because I can use the time to check out retail options at the airports, to see what beauty brands are doing and offering. Moreover, most airports in Asia are amazing as I’ve realised after travelling a lot in Asia while I was based in Hong Kong. You can spend a lot of time there looking at different things without realising it’s almost time to board your plane — like at Changi Airport.

Q; Do you have a favourite country in Asia to visit?

A: Myanmar. I had this “a-ha” moment while I was there as I discovered a country that was so beautiful and untouched by mass tourism. Places such as Lake Inle and Bagan were astonishing; the Pindaya Caves with thousands of Buddha statues were unbelievable, too. SERENE LIM
