SINGAPORE — Singaporeans are visiting New Zealand in record numbers, according to figures released by New Zealand’s tourism authority.

During a 12-month period beginning August last year, a record 47,500 Singaporeans visited New Zealand – the highest ever number of Singaporean visitors for a 12-month period.

Tourism New Zealand’s Regional Manager for South and South East Asia Steven Dixon said the increase in Singaporean visitors to New Zealand showcases the country’s growing appeal as a travel destination.

“New Zealand is a popular holiday choice for Singaporeans seeking an escape from hectic urban life,” said Mr Dixon, adding that around half of the Singaporean visitors in the 12-month period were repeat visitors.

Mr Dixon said Tourism New Zealand is looking at ways to strengthen tourism ties between the two countries and that an annual trade event called Kiwi Link South East Asia 2015, set to take place on Oct 5-6 in Singapore, will serve as a key platform.

Kiwi Link South East Asia 2015 will see 40 New Zealand tourism companies travel to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia between Oct 2 and Oct 17.
