Want the best seat on a plane?

SINGAPORE — Face it, picking a seat on your flight that best suit your needs is not the easiest task, one that is made more difficult if you are unfamiliar with the varying seating configurations. Comfort is a key consideration, but so is the option of being served first (because you know that some airlines can run out of popular dishes), and having a good view. And that’s where travel search engine Kayak.sg’s infographic guide will come in handy.

So is there an actual “best” seat on a plane? Well, according to the guide, in the Airbus fleet favoured by Singapore Airlines for short haul journeys, seat A1 is not so secretly known as the best seat. Here you’ll get extra legroom, a high chance of being served first and an unobstructed view. Customers in this seat should also wrap up warm as it is typically one of the colder seats in the plane. In contrast, seats in rows 44 and 45 in the Boeing 777 aircraft, which is commonly used by Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Qatar Airways, are the least desirable. Complaints include less legroom, limited reclining space and close proximity to both the toilets and crew galley.

Working with Dan Air, cabin crew member and author of Confessions Of A Trolley Dolly, KAYAK.sg developed this infographic to highlight the different characteristics of seats in these popular aircraft models, and provide tips for selecting a seat that corresponds to individual traveller needs.

“Here at KAYAK we pride ourselves on helping consumers travel better,” said Debby Soo, KAYAK vice president APAC. “We know that savvy travellers will arm themselves with information in order to get the most out of their travel experience; whether it’s knowing when to book to secure the best deal, or ways to get a favoured seat on a plane, going the extra mile can make all the difference to your journey.”
