For food junkies, there will be a confectionary pop-up store running till Jan 26 by homegrown brand KELE offering a wide range of Chinese New Year goodies at Raffles City. As part of 24th Anniversary Spring in the City & Happy Chinese New Year theatre performances at Esplanade, visitors can catch the show Marriage of Plum and Jade at Esplanade today at 8pm and tomorrow at 3.30pm. Organised by SC Cultural & Educational Pte Ltd, the theatre show — produced by Fujian Provincial Experimental Min Opera that has staged successful performances in countries such as American and Australia for more than 53 years — is bringing a comedic style of performance that brings about the vibrant regional characteristics of the East.

They will be presenting CNY goodies which include pineapple tarts, love letters, mini shrimp rolls and salted egg yolk chips.

The Tanjong Goodman Open House has returned with the theme Imaginary Compound, inviting you to explore the various possibilities Goodman Arts Centre can be. Look forward to an interactive installation, Happy and Free Karaoke by Singaporean film-maker Boo Junfeng, where you get to view a music video which re-imagines a scene of how Singapore would be like if it was still a part of Malaysia. Head to The Amazing World of ACAS, an exhibition by the Association of Comic Artists, where you can learn how comics are made and how they can be a tool in education. Also stop by Speech Bubble by Malaysian-born comic artist Sonny Liew, where you can view the exhibits that were previously displayed at the Speech Bubble exhibition held at the National Library in September last year.

Be entertained by rock band Bakers in Space — which was selected to be part of Noise Music Mentorship programme in 2016 — at Esplanade today, while indie pop and R&B artist Maricelle will be performing tracks from her EP Pursuit, tomorrow. Next weekend, look forward to performances from Peng Chi Shen and Aaron Matthew Lim, the directors of music school Intune Music. There will be a guest appearance from local singer Tay Sia Yeun (who was a participant in Chinese reality television singing competition Sound of my Dream) as well.

HEADS UP: ROOSTER IN THE ROO-NAR NEW YEAR AT WILDLIFE RESERVES SINGAPORE

Soak in the atmosphere at the Jurong Bird Park, which will be decked out in colourful Chinese New Year-themed decorations. There, go for a guided fowl trail and meet an assortment of pheasants, peafowls and jungle fowls, or witness new chick hatchings at its Breeding and Research Centre. Stand a chance to receive an angbao hand-delivered by a cockatoo, when you watch the Bird Park’s High Flyers show. Over at the River Safari, pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia will attempt to ferret out treats in red packets and watch as the manatees unveil their well-wishes for guests, while at the Singapore Zoo, spot animals such as the orangutans, Asian elephants and Malayan flying foxes sniff out festive treats given by keepers. At the Night Safari, catch an electrifying LED dragon dance, which signifies auspiciousness, nobility and fortune.

Gardens by the Bay’s upcoming event, Spring Surprise 2017, will entertain with an array of traditional performances as well as an invigorating LED show done for the first time. Titled Rise of the Golden Phoenix, there will be thrilling stunts by LED dragons, lions and stilt walkers at the Supertree Grove. Other performances include an energetic drum performance by ZingO Festival Drums also at the Supertree Grove and a spring melodies performance at the Flower Dome played by young musicians from various schools using traditional Chinese instruments.
