Slow Food is presenting Kueh Appreciation Day 2016, which pays tribute to the traditional kueh and local snacks found in Singapore. Expect an assortment of savoury and sweet kuehs spanning different ethnic groups and taste different styles of kuehs from Peranakan, Hainanese, Singaporean Chinese, Eurasian, Hokkien, Teochew and Hakka cultures. There are also kueh demonstration workshops. Sign up for a fee of S$20 and learn how to make Hakka mugwort ricecake from Chef Then Chui Foong and her mum Madam Soh Lee Chin, and yam cake from Old Seng Choong with Chef Daniel Tay.

Get up close to the dazzling designs of gemstones and diamonds in the largest jewellery consumer event. This will be a breathtaking showcase of the most fantastic jewellery and cutting-edge designs by some 200 exhibitors from more than 25 countries. Visitors who spend S$2,000 or more during the event will receive a pair of Baroque earrings or necklace. There will also be a lucky draw today and a grand draw tomorrow to win prizes worth up to S$10,000.

An initiative organised by Dare to Dream , this is the first solo exhibition by LaSalle College of the Arts graduate Isabelle Lim who was born with a rare genetic condition called Nager Syndrome. Despite the challenges of the condition, Lim has managed to pursue her passion — photography. And in this exhibition, you can explore her works to see how each photograph captures the emotions of her human subjects.

Visual SG, South-east Asia’s signature Visualisation Festival presents a visual spectacle of data through the lens of creative and artistic expression. The theme for this year is ‘Beauty in Patterns’ and visitors can look forward to a line-up of interactive displays, forums and workshops. Take the chance to explore the unwrapping of an Egyptian mummy using an interactive touch table and look at the study of fossils by Patricia Vickers-Rich and Thomas Rich collaborating with artist Peter Trusler. The event will run until July 31.

The biennial event — Singapore Garden Festival returns from today till July 31. Organised by the National Parks Board (NParks) and Gardens by the Bay, this is a floral treat of displays and exquisite landscapes created by more than 30 international garden and floral designers. Don’t miss the orchid extravaganza at Flower Dome, table-top floral displays, terrarium exhibition and balcony displays.There will be a marketplace too, featuring more than 100 booths offering food, landscaping and craft products among others. The festival will also feature a special non-ticketed area where visitors can look forward to free nightly performances by Jive Talkin’, JumpStart and more today and Jack & Rai, 53A and Shili & Adi tomorrow from 6pm.

 

AN A-DOG-TION DRIVE

This Sunday, show your support for Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) at their adoption drive event, an A-Dog-tion Drive at Quayside Isle. More than 40 dogs including some cross-breeds and HDB approved canines will be brought to the event for adoption. Merchandise such as T-shirts, umbrellas and keychains are available for purchase and all proceeds will go to the ASD.

Next Sunday’s Community Chest Heartstrings Walk 2016 is a great opportunity for abled-bodied folk to walk alongside friends with disabilites for a good cause. Those who are interested can go one step further and challenge themselves in the Race to the Sky Vertical Marathon. To make it a real outing, bring along the entire family for the carnival where there are experiential booths designed for people with and without disabilities to enjoy. There are also inflatables for children to have a hopping good time.
