River Safari’s annual Safari Boo ends its run this weekend. Celebrating all things alien and monstrous, this year’s event adopts a merry-not-scary approach so kids can enjoy this festive season, too. There will be a live animal presention plus a new performance, Mermaid Mania, that comprises a choreographed underwater musical performed by people dressed as mermaids swimming with manatees. As part of Mint Museum of Toys’ monthly late-night event, Guerrilla, the museum will be opening up Level Five exclusively to feature a rare mask of a villain from the 1950s British sci-fi comic series, Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future. Visitors can also paint the masks of a space character of their choice — Robot Lilliput or Moon Creature — in a complimentary mask-making session, or admire the collection of space 
toys, robots and other collectibles on display.

The supermarket is attempting to make it into the Singapore Book of Records for the “Most Number of Halloween Pumpkins Painted”. Celebrate 50 years of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations by immersing yourself in all things Japanese at this year’s SJ50 Matsuri festival. Today, be entertained by the traditional Bon dance performance Awa Odori, which originated in Tokushima Prefecture. Japan’s popular mascot, Kumamon, will also be present for photo-taking opportunities today. For food junkies, there will be Japanese cooking demonstrations and samples provided with the appearance of brands such as Shizuoka, Japan studio ABC Cooking Studio Singapore and Kirin Ichiban.

The visitor who is best dressed to scare will stand a chance to win prizes up to S$200.

A brand new music-driven fitness festival, The St James Fitness Festival, will debut next Saturday at the St James Power Station. Held across three stages, the festival celebrates the active mind, body and soul with an eclectic range of programmes for everyone. Fans of fitness group workouts can participate in Zumba classes led by popular local instructors Sock Ling, Rachel Tan and Heidi Lim, as well as an adrenaline-pumped U-Jam Fitness session led by Sacramento-based trainer Kristen Noel (aka K-Swag). Those above 50 years of age pay a special price of S$49.
