SINGAPORE — The 11th edition of the SHINE Festival kicks off today at 5pm and it returns to Orchard Road to hold a series of events and performances.

SHINE Festival will even be closing the stretch from Ion Orchard to Mandarin Gallery to traffic tomorrow on Saturday. “SHINE Festival is more than just a three-day showcase of youth energy, dynamism and raw talent.” said David Chua, chief executive officer of National Youth Council. “It is also the first time the National Youth Council is working with Ministry of Education to integrate SHINE Festival at Orchard Road with the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) where school bands will be marching along Orchard Road as part of the festival.”

Band performances aside, the festival will see both international and local acts firing up the crowd. American-born Korean hip-hop sensation Jay Park making a special appearance and sharing the stage on July 2 with local songwriter-rapper ShiGGa Shay. Other homegrown artistes such as Gentle Bones and Tabitha Nauser will perform while YouTube stars like Tree Potatoes and Butterworks are conducting sharing sessions on how to create great content for aspiring creators.

Artist and technological expert Shang and his mentees under the *SCAPE Youth Talent Development Programme have also created five interactive motion reactive walls located along Orchard Road near ION Orchard. And Shine Festival has enlisted the help of event organiser The Local People to create a pop-up market at the Festival Village at *SCAPE tomorrow and Sunday where there will be over 50 pop-up stalls selling products ranging from wacky flavoured sodas to clothing to kitchen ware items.

And with all things outdoors, there’ll be food trucks located along the street near Mandarin Gallery. Over 10 trucks such as Maki-San for sushi lovers and Kerbside Gourmet serving Bak Chor Mee hot dogs will be there. That hot dog already sounds like a good reason to check out Shine Festival.
