Into its ninth edition, Beerfest Asia 2017 returns with 100 new labels. There will also be an extensive musical line-up featuring more than 30 live acts (DJs and bands) from different genres. Yoga enthusiasts will be able to participate in the Beer Yoga session — combining yoga poses with drinking beer.

Wayang kulit, the traditional shadow-puppet play, will take centre stage at the 2017 Aliwal Arts Night Crawl, which is into its fifth year. Performance arts group Sri Warisan will be retelling classic tales from the Ramayana and Malay legends (Sang Nila Utama) through wayang kulit performances. There will also be roving art installations by street art collective RSCLS, which will be casting wayang kulit shadows onto the roving installations as it makes its rounds.

Sweat it out by in a boxing session while listening to club beats by local DJs. Happening over two weekends, the event will see DJ Inquisitive spinning tomorrow, and DJ Tinc spinning next weekend. Participants can expect to punch water bags for 45 minutes as part of the aqua-bag boxing session. After the session, food and drink will be provided by The Providore. A refundable deposit of S$10 is required.

Various street food stalls from five South-east Asian countries will feature in the RWS Street Eats pop-up event. Among the renowned hawker stalls and eateries are Pahang’s Restoran Damodaran Nair, which will offer its Sempalit Curry Chicken made from a 60-year-old secret recipe; and Bangkok’s Foon Ta Lop’s papaya salad and Thai fried chicken from Chatuchak Market. Each dish costs from S$4 to S$8.

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR PINK RIBBON WALK 2017

The Pink Ribbon Walk returns this October to mark the 20th anniversary of the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF). Highlights of the event include the Pink Ribbon Parade with stilt-walkers as well as live performances by BCF survivors, volunteers and corporate partners. A 5km run category has been added to this year’s event. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen will be in attendance. Participants can apply now to enjoy early bird prices at S$35 (UP: S$40) for the 3.5km walk and S$45 (UP: S$50) for the 5km walk until Sept 10. Registrations close on Sept 22.

Feeling peckish? The Ugly Cake Shop’s cupcakes such as Valrhona Nutella and Bittersweet Chocolate can satiate your appetite and top it off with Bettr Barista’s hand-roasted sustainable coffee blends. There will also be a meditative tea appreciation session by Hush TeaBar run by the hearing impaired.

People’s Park Complex will host a carnival from Aug 25 to 27 where visitors can enjoy Chinese opera performances, participate in stage games and lucky draws at the event. Food sampling will be included as well. There will be an opening ceremony on Aug 25 at 11.30pm. The event will start at 12pm on Aug 26 and Aug 27.

Enjoy a relaxing Saturday afternoon listening to tunes from local bands at the upcoming annual music showcase event, Tones. Participating bands include: local indie-electronic duo .gif, singer-songwriter Adir Kaisan and rock band The Intimate Friends. Tickets are S$8 at the door.
