LONDON – A man wielding a knife was arrested outside the Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (May 24), as Britain remains on critical terror alert following Monday’s bomb attack at the Manchester Arena that killed 22 people and injured 59 others.

According to The Telegraph, the man was detained by police on just moments before UK’s monarch Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip passed by in a car on their way to an engagement at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Metropolitan Police said the incident, which happened at around 10.40am on Wednesday, is not believed to be terror-related.

The British government has raised the national threat level to its highest category and deployed soldiers to protect key sites like the British Parliament.

This will free up police resources to pursue an investigation into a possible wider network behind Monday's attack in Manchester, under a plan announced by British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Three other arrests have also been made in South Manchester on Wednesday (May 24) in relation to the Manchester bomb attack, which happened at a concert by American pop star Ariana Grande.
