SINGAPORE – A massive islandwide anti-drug blitz conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) saw 113 drug offenders arrested in two separate operations, along with the seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of more than S$163,000.

The first operation, conducted on Oct 26-31, saw CNB officers leading an intensive anti-drug with the support of the Singapore Police Force. A total of 109 suspected drug abusers and traffickers were arrested in many areas that included Boon Lay, Bukit Batok, Geyland, Joo Chiat Road, Jurong, Marine Parade, Marsiling, Outram Road, Punggol Central, Serangoon and Woodlands.

In one such bust on Wednesday (Oct 29) during the islandwide blitz, CNB officers arrested a 46-year-old suspected of drug trafficking and seized a total of about 590g of heroin, 12g of ‘Ice’ and 22 Erimin-5 tablets from him. Officers also seized more than S$3,300 of cash from him.

The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g.

In a separate operation yesterday, CNB officers arrested two Singaporean men and two female foreign nationals after raiding their suspected hideout. The men, 49 and 50, were first arrested in the vicinity of Teban Gardens, and about 450g of heroin, 210g of ‘Ice’ and 1,000 Erimin-5 tablets were recovered from the 49-year-old man. Cash amounting to S$1,760 was seized from the 50-year-old.

When officers raided the suspected hideout of the 49-year-old along Changi Road, they two female foreign nationals aged 30 and 43, along with about 180g of ‘Ice’, 22 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 43 Erimin-5 tablets and drug-taking utensils.

“The 1.2kg of heroin seized in the two operations could have fed the addiction of almost 589 drug abusers for a week,” said Mr Ng Ser Song, director of CNB.

He also reiterated the CNB’s commitment to continue maintaining enforcement on the ground and called on the community for strong support on their “zero-tolerance stance against drugs”.

Investigations on all suspects arrested are currently ongoing.
