12 taken to hospital after truck hits SBS bus

SINGAPORE — A truck collided with an SBS Transit bus at Tampines Avenue 10 yesterday morning, resulting in 12 people being taken to hospital, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Of the 12, 11 were taken to Changi General Hospital and one to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, said the SCDF, adding that the passengers suffered minor injuries and were conscious while being taken to the hospitals.

The SCDF said it was informed of the incident at 8.26am and that it sent three ambulances to the scene.

The Singapore Police Force, which was informed of the accident at 8.27am, said investigations were ongoing.

In a statement, SBS Transit senior vice-president of corporate communications, Ms Tammy Tan, said the bus was hit in the rear by the truck, injuring several passengers. “Our staff are now at the hospital to extend care and concern and render assistance as best we can to the injured passengers,” she said.

The accident followed a collision earlier this month between two SBS Transit buses at the junction of Sims Avenue and Sims Way, resulting in 23 people being taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

One of the two buses — one a single-deck and the other a double-deck — had rear-ended the other at the slip road into Sims Avenue. SBS Transit has apologised to the affected passengers for the distress and inconvenience caused and has said it is investigating the accident.
