2015: Warmest year ever

2015 was the hottest year, breaking the record set the previous year. Scientists attributed the temperature to both the El Nino weather pattern as well as the effect of planetary warming from human emissions of greenhouse gases. The heat is expected to continue into this year due to the strong El Nino pattern, and there's a possibility that 2016 will set a global temperature record. TODAY looks at the weather anomalies for the last 135 years and significant events recorded in December 2015 due to changing weather patterns.
