26 CCs to screen Euro 2016 matches ‘live’

SINGAPORE — Football fans who do not want to fork out extra money to watch the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 on the television will be able to watch it with friends and neighbours at 26 community clubs around Singapore.

SINGAPORE — Football fans who do not want to fork out extra money to watch the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 on the television will be able to watch it with friends and neighbours at 26 community clubs around Singapore.

All 51 matches during the month-long season will be screened, starting with the France versus Romania match at 3am on Saturday June 11, according to a press released issued by the People’s Association (PA) on Monday (May 30).

PA executive director Ang Hak Seng noted that when the PA screened the World Cup and the Barclays Premier League matches, many residents enjoyed the atmosphere. “We are happy to offer another occasion for neighbours to enjoy football fever together with their friends, and hopefully make some new ones in the process.”

The 26 CCs screening the matches cover the length and breadth of the island from Canberra CC in the north to Ulu Pandan CC in the south, from Jurong Spring CC in the west to Tampines West CC in the east.

The Euro 2016 will see a total of 24 teams contest the tournament for the first time in history, with the group stage running on June 10-22, followed by the round-of-16 knockout stage on June 25-27. The eight winners will progress to the quarter-finals, played between June 30 and July 3, followed by the semi-finals (July 6-7) and the final (July 10).
