300 eligible applications for 3Gen flats a ‘good start’: Khaw

SINGAPORE — The latest Build-To-Order (BTO) exercise attracted about 300 applications from multi-generation families who were eligible to buy the 84 units of Three-Generation (3Gen) flats offered, said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan today (Oct 2).

SINGAPORE — The latest Build-To-Order (BTO) exercise attracted about 300 applications from multi-generation families who were eligible to buy the 84 units of Three-Generation (3Gen) flats offered, said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan today (Oct 2).

Describing it as a “good start to the new scheme”, Mr Khaw wrote in a blog post that the ministry “deliberately bundled 3Gen flats together with five-room flats”.

“This way, those who could not select a 3Gen flat will have the additional option of choosing a five-room flat. Alternatively, they could wait for the Nov BTO which will include about 100 units of 3Gen flats in Jurong West."

The 3Gen units, each with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, have an internal floor area of about 115 square metres — slightly bigger than five-room flats, which can measure up to 110 sq m.

The September BTO exercise also saw 42 pairs of applications under the enhanced multi-generation priority scheme (MGPS). The schem allows parents to apply for three-room flats, in addition to a Studio Apartment or a two-room flat.

Among the MGPS applications, nine out of 10 parents applied for a 3-room flat.

Noting that demand from singles is “as expected high”, with about 7,800 applications as at 5pm today, Mr Khaw reiterated that the ministry will ramp up the supply of two-room BTO units in non-mature esates to 5,000 units next year to address demand.
