SINGAPORE — A 39-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in several cases of bicycle theft in Jurong East and Jurong West housing estates, the police said today (July 1).

In one incident on June 2, the victim had secured his bicycle at the allocated bicycle stand at Blk 244, Jurong East St 21, at about 6.40am. But when he returned from work later in the day, his bicycle was no longer at the stand. The victim then made a police report.

With the aid of Polcams – police cameras which have been installed at various HDB flats and multi-storey carparks around the island – the police managed to obtain the descriptions of the suspect, and later established his identity.

The suspect was arrested at Jurong East on Tuesday, and police also recovered five bicycles.

He will be charged in court tomorrow with bicycle theft.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of three years’ imprisonment, and/or fine.
