SINGAPORE - The layout of the new 3Gen flat type is sensitive to the needs of two families living under one roof, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said on his blog today (Sept 21).

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will offer the new flat type in its September Build-To-Order exercise. They will be introduced at Saraca Breeze @ Yishun, which is close to Khatib MRT station.

The 3Gen flat will come with four bedrooms - two are main bedrooms with attached bathrooms, according to the layout shared on Mr Khaw’s blog.

He added that the living and dining areas are well-placed to facilitate interaction, whilst providing the necessary privacy to both the elderly and younger couples.

The 3Gen flats are also elderly-friendly and will allow easy wheelchair movements should the need arise.

Mr Khaw said the 3Gen flat will provide an additional option for multi-generation families who want to live together for mutual care and support.

A current five-room flat is about 110 square metres.

The 3Gen flat will be slightly bigger at 115 square metres, which property analysts say is comparable to dual-key executive condominium units. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
