SINGAPORE — A total of 408 patients and 277 Singapore General Hospital (SGH) staff have tested negative for hepatitis C, SGH said in today’s (Oct 15) update.

As of 6pm today, 473 patients and 282 staff have been screened. The remaining 65 patient results and 5 staff results are pending.

The outbreak, which has infected 22 patients, was made public last week. The first case was detected on April 17. Of the eight who died, four are linked to the virus infection, while a fifth is under review.

The hospital is screening patients who were at the affected ward from January to June this year.

Results of the tests are available after a week. The hepatitis C virus has an incubation period of between two weeks and six months.
