SINGAPORE — A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly vandalising five buildings in the Bugis area earlier this week, police said on Friday (April 28).

The suspect, who was detained on Thursday, is believed to have scrawled graffiti on the facades of the National Design Centre, Fu Lu Shou Complex, The Prospex, OG Albert and Bugis+ Shopping Centre on Monday.

Photos posted online about the incidents showed a message in Mandarin, challenging an individual to “come out” if he or she dared.

Police said they were first alerted to the case of vandalism at about 8.49am at 149 Rochor Road on Monday. With the aid of CCTV images, the 43-year-old suspect was caught at Hougang Avenue 8 on Thursday. A marker pen, a bicycle and some clothing were also seized.

The suspect will be charged in court on Saturday. If convicted, he could be fined up to S$2,000 and jailed for up to three years. He could also face between three and eight strokes of the cane.
