Singapore – A suspected serial fare cheat has been nabbed by Police on Thursday (March 16).

The 44-year-old man allegedly failed to pay for his taxi fare on multiple occasions and also cheated taxi drivers of their money.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the man flagged down cabs and asked the drivers to make a short stop at a market along Haig Road before proceeding to his intended destination. During the ride, on each occasion, he then requested for loans of between S$20 and S$40 from the taxi drivers on various pretexts. When he arrived at the market along Haig Road, he alighted without paying the fare nor the money he borrowed.

The suspect was arrested in Potong Pasir on Thursday.

He will be charged in court on Saturday with the offence of cheating. If convicted, he could be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
