50 evacuated from Toa Payoh block after void deck fire

SINGAPORE – Several residents had to be evacuated when a fire broke out at the void deck of a block of flats in Toa Payoh on Tuesday morning (June 20).

SINGAPORE – Several residents had to be evacuated when a fire broke out at the void deck of a block of flats in Toa Payoh on Tuesday morning (June 20).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident, which happened at Block 14A along Toa Payoh Lorong 7, at 4.50am.

It despatched a fire engine, a red rhino and two ambulances to the scene.

Around 50 residents were evacuated from the second to sixth levels of the block by the Singapore Police Force. One woman in her 60s was sent to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire, which involved discarded items at the void deck of the block, was extinguished within 10 minutes by firefighters.

According to the SCDF, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
