SINGAPORE — Six in ten Singapore residents feel that current film and arts content regulations are balanced, and only a minority find them too relaxed or too restrictive, according to a survey by REACH.
The phone survey of 1,500 Singapore residents aged 15 and above was conducted in the first quarter of this year, and findings were released today (Aug 20).
Of the respondents, 23 per cent felt regulations were “somewhat restrictive” or “too restrictive”. They cited the need for content variety and felt that audiences could decide for themselves what content is appropriate.
The 9 per cent who deemed regulations “somewhat relaxed” or “too relaxed” cited the need to protect the young from inappropriate content, and that society is still largely conservative.
The findings also highlighted two demographic groups that were more likely to view current regulations as restrictive: Younger respondents below the age of 40 and respondents who did not have children.
