SINGAPORE — Work has begun for six stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). The stations - Napier; Orchard Boulevard; Orchard; Great World; Havelock; and Outram Park - are expected to be completed by 2021.

Senior Minister of State for Law and Education Indranee Rajah officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the stations this morning (March 7).

There will also be two new interchanges at Orchard and Outram Park stations, which will link the TEL with the North-South Line, North-East Line and the East-West Line.

Ms Indranee, who is also MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, said she is delighted that works for the Napier, Orchard Boulevard, Great World and Havelock stations are under way, as they would meet the needs of residents nearby who are currently not served by MRT services.

While the new line will bring great accessibility when completed, its construction like other rail projects will bring some temporary inconveniences, like dust, noise or road diversion. That said, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has given the assurance that it will work together with the main contractors to minimise such inconveniences, she added. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
