SINGAPORE — Karaoke company K Box said it managed to remove 80 per cent of the links leading to the access of its members’ data in the first 24 hours after the data was put up for public download on Tuesday (Sept 16) by hackers.
“We are continuing our efforts to ensure that all of such internet links are removed,” said the company’s Chief Operating Officer Priscilla Ng today.
Ms Ng said K Box is working closely with the Personal Data Protection Committee and police in their investigation on the hacking and theft of its database and publication of membership details.
Personal details of more than 317,000 K Box members were leaked by hackers who had breached the company’s membership database. The list containing details such as the mobile numbers, identification card numbers and addresses.
The hackers, who call themselves The Knowns, said their actions were in protest against the Government’s announcement last week that it would match Malaysia’s toll hikes at the Causeway starting Oct 1. They also threatened to steal information from the databases of other Singapore companies, if their demands against the Government are not met.
