83.3% score 5 or more GCE O-Level passes

SINGAPORE — 83.3 per cent of students who sat for last year’s General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-Level) examination in Singapore scored five or more passes, beating 2013’s results (82.7 per cent), which had been the highest in 10 years.

SINGAPORE — A total of 83.3 per cent of students who sat for last year’s General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-Level) examination in Singapore scored five or more passes, beating 2013’s results (82.7 per cent), which had been the highest in 10 years.

The 2014 O-Level results were released today (Jan 12) by the Ministry of Education (MOE). A total of 30,964 students sat for the exams.

Of the students, 99.9 per cent passed at least one O-Level subject; 29,705 school candidates obtained three or more O-Level passes, while 25,789 school candidates obtained five or more O-Level passes.

This year, 3949 students from the Secondary 4 Normal Academic course sat for one or more subjects in the GCE O-Level examinations. Of these 87.9 per cent obtained at least one O-Level pass.

There were also 2,133 private candidates, and 89.5 per cent have been awarded certificates.

Students began receiving their results from 2pm today. Private candidates will be notified of their individual results by post. Alternatively, they can access their results online through the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board at http://www.seab.gov.sg.

Students will have until this Friday (Jan 16) to apply for admission to junior colleges, the Millennia Institute, polytechnics or the Institute of Technical Education either through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) or Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE). JAE and JPSAE admission results are expected to be released on Jan 29 and Jan 30 respectively.

Students and parents may refer to ecareers.sg for guidance on their educational and career guidance options. The website is an interactive web-based education and career guidance portal posted by MOE. It provides up-to-date information on the education options and career development pathways available to students.
