SINGAPORE — Android devices are winning the mobile war in Singapore, according to a survey by content discovery platform Outbrain.

The findings of the survey of how mobile Internet users consume content, which were released today, showed that Apple’s iOS (operating system) was dominant only in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Android’s OS for smartphone and tablets was the dominant force in the other seven major markets covered by the survey: France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Spain and Singapore.

Android phones accounted for 54 per cent of the mobile traffic in Singapore, compared to the iPhone’s 45 per cent.

“We found that Apple devices still have the stronger foothold in English-speaking countries, like the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Meanwhile, data suggests Android is winning over the European market,” the company said in its weekly email digest.

The survey was based on data collected from a network of 100,000 publishing sites from Jan 19 to 25, what Outbrain called “an average week”.

Other findings from the survey:

• Mobile smartphones, rather than tablets, were still the preferred form of consumption in all markets bar Australia, where content was consumed evenly between the two options.

• Celebrity and football news were the most popular types of content consumed worldwide. Football topped the list in Singapore

• The peak time for mobile consumption in Singapore was the latest among nations surveyed: 10pm
