BANGKOK — A 42-year-old Laotian man dubbed the 'Asean drug lord' was arrested by Thai police on Thursday (Jan 19) in a sting operation at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The arrest comes after five years of investigations by Thai authorities into an elaborate drug network spanning the Asean region, including Singapore and Malaysia, according to a Bernama report.

Three Thai nationals believed to be his accomplices were also arrested in follow-up operations, where authorities also seized 14 land plots, 14 luxury cars, gold accessories and cash money totalling 100 million Thai Baht (S$40 million).

TODAY has contacted the Singapore police for comment on the man's alleged links to Singapore.
