Assault on Amos Yee is ‘unacceptable’: K Shanmugam
SINGAPORE – Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said the assault on Amos Yee by a member of the public is “unacceptable” and hopes that the attacker will be caught soon.

SINGAPORE – Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said the assault on Amos Yee by a member of the public is “unacceptable” and hopes that the attacker will be caught soon.
Making his comments in a Facebook post this evening (April 30), Mr Shanmugam said: “People may have strong feelings about Amos (or anyone else who is charged). But we have to leave it to the courts to deal with them. Taking the law into one’s own hands cannot be condoned.”
Earlier this afternoon, a stranger had approached Amos and slapped him as he was walking toward the State Courts for his pre-trial conference.
Mr Shanmugam added: “Rule of Law means respecting the legal process. If everyone starts taking the law into his or her own hands, then we will no longer be a civilised society. I hope that the attacker will be caught quickly, and is dealt with appropriately.”
He also revealed that he understands that the charge in respect of the statements Amos made on the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew have been stood down.
