SINGAPORE — Residents in Bedok can expect a seamless air-conditioned transition between bus and MRT services starting Nov 30, when the new Bedok Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) opens.

The Bedok ITH is Singapore’s seventh ITH; and is the first to achieve the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Platinum Award. It features energy-efficient lighting for the concourse, LED lighting for the driveway and bus park area, as well as a water-cooled air-conditioning system.

Additionally, the new bus interchange at Bedok ITH will have dedicated boarding points and graduated kerb edges to facilitate easier boarding for passengers in wheelchairs. It will also have better amenities for bus captains and staff such as a bigger staff lounge and kitchen facilities in the staff canteen.

The new interchange is expected to benefit about 40,000 commuters daily. All 27 bus services currently operating from the existing temporary interchange will switch to the new interchange once it is operational.

Eight SBS Transit bus services — 14, 18, 66, 69, 168, 222, 225W and 228 — will also no longer call at the bus stop in front of Block 204, Bedok North Interchange Road as it will be abolished.

Another three ITHs are currently under construction at Joo Koon, Bukit Panjang and Yishun. They are scheduled to be completed in 2015, 2016 and 2018 respectively.
