SINGAPORE — With two new faces spotted on the ground last month as potential General Election candidates in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Member of Parliament in the constituency, Mr Wong Kan Seng, was asked about their progress as potential People’s Action Party names.

And Mr Wong, who was hosting Education Minister Heng Swee Keat’s visit, singled out Mr Chong Kee Hiong, 48, chief executive of OUE Hospitality REIT Management, as one who had been “working very hard”.

“He has organised many things, not just today’s ministerial visit that he’s co-chairman of,” said Mr Wong, who cited a pioneer generation dinner last year, which more than 4,000 residents attended.

He added: “They all enjoyed themselves and went back (with) very happy memories. Some of them still talk about that particular dinner, and Mr Chong ... (was) the chairman of that.”

Mr Chong has been serving as a committee member of Bishan East Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) for more than six months, while the other new face is Mr Saktiandi Supaat, 40, head of foreign exchange research at Maybank.

They are members of Bishan East CCC and Toa Payoh East CCC respectively. Mr Saktiandi began volunteering with the Meet-the-People Sessions at Kolam Ayer CCC in 2008 and moved last year to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC. TAN WEIZHEN
