SINGAPORE — Parts of 313@somerset shopping mall plunged into darkness for slightly over an hour on Thursday (June 22) evening after a power trip.

Ms Cheryl Goh, General Manager, 313@somerset, confirmed that the blackout occurred at 7.10pm. Power was restored at 8.20pm.

"The management is currently investigating the cause and regret any inconvenience caused earlier in the evening," added Ms Goh.

Popular Singaporean blogger Lee Kin Mun, better known as mrbrown, tweeted that the blackout affected all eight floors of the shopping mall owned by Lendlease.

Diners at Chinese restaurant Hai Di Lao Hot Pot posted pictures of the restaurant in darkness on social media.

The staff of 313@somerset was unable to confirm what caused the outage.

When TODAY visited the mall about 8.15pm, most of the shops on the ground floor were shuttered, as staff members waited in darkness for power to be restored.

Cheers were heard when the lights in the stores returned at 8.20pm and the shops got back to business quickly.

Students Nicole Ng and Zenn Lim, both 18, ate dinner at the mall's Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen "in the dark".

The outage had already plunged the fast-food restaurant into darkness when they ordered their meal at 7.15pm. Staff members had to take orders manually and the drinks machine did not work because of the outage, said Ms Ng. "It was a bad thing we couldn't get the drinks," she said.

She added: "I just felt bad for the (other) shops. They couldn't operate properly. The cashiers couldn't work."

Late last year, 313@somerset was temporarily closed after a fire broke out in a store room inside a shop on the fourth floor.
