SINGAPORE – A water pipe that burst at Bukit Batok West Ave 6 on Tuesday night is being repaired, said the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

In a Facebook update at 3am on Wednesday (Sep 27), the PUB said that it had "isolated the pipe leak at the junction Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 and Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 at 1.50am on Sep 27, 2017."

It added that the leftmost lane along Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 will be cordoned off for repair works to be carried out.

It is currently unknown when the repair works will be completed.

News of the burst water pipe came to light when a video was posted online on Tuesday.

In the video, which has since gone viral, water can be seen shooting upwards, several metres into the air.

It obstructed oncoming traffic as water levels on the road got higher, preventing the vehicles from passing through.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they had received a call at 9.54pm on Tuesday of a pipe burst along Bukit Batok West Ave 6 in front of Block 153.

One fire engine was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found both lanes of the road were filled with water.

The SCDF said they helped the Traffic Police to manage the traffic while waiting for officials from the PUB to arrive.

An onlooker told TODAY that she was on her way home when she came across the tower of water.

"There were a few onlookers and the SCDF came thereafter (about 20 mins). Affected vehicles were also told to reverse their car and use alternate routes by the SCDF officers on site," said Ms Eileen Tay, 24.
