SINGAPORE – You get in the back seat, tell the taxi driver where to go and start fiddling with the phone. But there is one important step that is missing from this scenario: Buckling up.

Traffic Police (TP) registered some 8,900 violations last year alone, a slight increase over 2011’s 8,700 figure. To combat this, the Singapore Road Safety Council, TP and Liberty Insurance earlier today launched a new Seatbelt Wearing Campaign specifically targeting taxi passengers.

The campaign will see some 16,000 ComfortDelgro taxis installed with Liberty BuckleUp! seatbelt cushions from mid-June , helping to raise awareness of and drive home this important message from the ground.

The campaign will also target a people-private-public audience, and continues the efforts of the Singapore Road Safety Month.
