SINGAPORE — A series of community talks on our local engineering feats, a commemorative book and a scholarship fund — these are some of the activities and initiatives that the Institution of Engineers, Singapore(IES) president Er Chong Kee Sen unveiled today (Jan 28), in celebration of Singapore’s jubilee year.

To inspire the next generation of engineers, the IES-SG50 Golden Jubilee Scholarship Fund aims to support students passionate in the field.

“To achieve this, IES will be creating an exclusively-minted medallion that carries both the IES-SG50 Golden Jubilee and IES logos to raise funds for the scholarship. The medallion will also be a symbol of pride for engineers as it recognise their individual efforts towards our society,” said Mr Chong, who was speaking at the inaugural NTUC U Associate Convention.

A series of community talks — a first for IES — will be held at Science Centre Singapore, community centres and public libraries to better educate the public on the work of engineers.

There will also be a Engineering Feats @ SG50 competition where Singaporeans are invited to vote on top 50 engineering projects that have made economic and social impact on their lives.

Another highlight of IES-SG50 celebration is a commemorative book titled “50 Years of Engineering” that is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year and will feature engineering feats as well as outstanding engineers who have made a difference to Singapore.

IES will also be sponsoring three-year complimentary NTUC U Associate memberships for IES members. Those who qualify will enjoy incentives including subsidised professional development programmes, networking activities and recreational facilities.
