SINGAPORE – A multi-purpose vehicle caught fire and was completely burnt out at Serangoon Road early Friday (April 14) morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at about 1.50am and sent one firebike, one red rhino, and one fire engine to the scene near Blk 436 Serangoon Road.

The fire was extinguished using two water jets and two compressed air foam backpacks, said SCDF.

An eyewitness Ms Priya J R, 31, an ayurvedic consultant who works nearby, told TODAY that she heard a big noise at around 1.50am.

“I did not know what it was. When I came out around 2am, I saw the car on fire," she said.

Ms Priya said police at the scene told her there was no one inside the vehicle, which was stationary on the one way street, near some parallel parking lots in front of a row of shophouses.

Another eyewitness Ms Padma, the owner of a nearby restaurant, said “the fire got a bit out of control”.

She added that there was a man near the car at the time of the incident and he told her to fetch some water to try and douse the flames.

SCDF said there were no reported injuries and the fire is under investigation.
