Causeway traffic crawls to near standstill
Traffic on the Causeway leading to Singapore came to a near standstill for hours yesterday afternoon, as the heavy traffic expected over the Hari Raya Puasa long weekend continued, clearing only in the evening. In a travel advisory issued last week, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) warned of heavy traffic at both the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints over the weekend and that travellers should expect delays. Massive jams were also seen on Friday, made worse in the morning when an ‘intermittent’ slowdown in the ICA’s system occurred. The ICA has said it would open more immigration clearance counters for travellers where needed to improve efficiency. PHOTO: WEE TECK HIAN
