Changi Airport tops list of best airports in the world — again

SINGAPORE — For the fourth consecutive year, Changi Airport has been named the World’s Best Airport by travellers at the 2016 World Airport Awards, an annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.

This also marks the seventh time — and the sixth within a decade — the airport has picked the title for the same award, according to a press release from United Kingdom-based Skytrax, a consultancy that runs an airline and airport review and ranking site.

The top five airports include Incheon International Airport, Munich Airport, Tokyo International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport respectively.

While Changi Airport did not top these categories, it took fourth place for the World’s Cleanest Airport and ranked third for the airport with the best dining experience, baggage delivery and airport shopping.

It was also awarded the Best Airport in Asia and Best Airport for Leisure Amenities. Factors that were taken into consideration for the Leisure Amenities award include the airport’s availability of music bar lounges, cinemas, music deck, swimming pool, napping and rest areas, the in-terminal Transit Hotel and free sightseeing tour activities for customers.

Likewise, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, linked to Changi Airport’s Terminal 3, has been crowned World’s Best Airport Hotel for 2016, the second consecutive year it has won the award.

The awards are based on 13.25 million customer nominations across 106 nationalities of air travellers and included 550 airports worldwide. The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and product: From check-ins, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure at the gate.

“To be named by global travellers as the world’s favourite airport for the sixth time in 10 years is great reward not only to Changi Airport management, but for staff across every section of the airport who contribute in every little way to Changi Airport operations,” said Mr Edward Plaisted, chief executive officer of Skytrax.
